CLIMBING COACH & CUSTOMER SERVICE

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part & Full-Time

Aspire Climbing is a dynamic, multi-faceted full-service climbing gym. Our staff wear several hats as customer service representatives, belay instructors, coaches, risk management officers and more. We value outgoing, friendly, confident and capable people with attention to detail and initiative. Applicants must have a solid foundation of climbing knowledge and skills. They must possess the ability to communicate instruction verbally and through demonstration, articulating climbing movement into simple tangible concepts, for youth and adults. Safe practices are priority, while providing quality instruction to new and experienced clientele. Our instructors and coaches are leaders, ambassadors and motivators. Applicants must have experience working with youth, possess strong work ethic, with a positive attitude towards healthy living. They must be willing to learn, adapt and grow personally and professionally. We are willing to train high value candidates with a good team fit.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coaching role in the School of Hard Rock and Vanguards, our advanced youth climbing program (lead or support)

  • Communicate quality instruction for top-rope belay and bouldering

  • Coordinate and promote youth and adult climbing programs

  • Implement and monitor lesson plans and curriculum

  • Identify areas for growth or improvement within the program schedule

  • Communicate with coaching staff to ensure a positive experience for athletes

  • Maintain knowledge of gym programs and products

  • Operate a cash register and computerized point-of-sale (POS) system

  • Answer phones, take messages, schedule parties/groups, register students/participants for classes/clinics/events

  • Maintain a clean and organized gym environment for all customers and staff

  • Provide excellent customer service

  • Possibly assist in other aspects of operation with front desk, customer service responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced rock climbing skills are required

  • Must possess ability to belay effectively and articulate basic/advanced climbing techniques

  • Previous experience working with youth

  • Previous coaching experience

  • Flexible, eager to learn and willing to adapt to new responsibilities

  • Prior work in a customer service or coaching environment

  • Strong organizational skills, multi-tasking and time management abilities

  • Demonstrate initiative, able to identify and solve problems

  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations

  • Leads by example

  • Detail oriented

  • Punctual and reliable

  • Outgoing, friendly, positive and upbeat

  • Experience using Rock Gym Pro software is preferred

WORK HOURS:

Employment is part-time however full-time hours may be available based on capabilities; a minimum of 15 hrs/week to a maximum of 40 hours/week. Full commitment to youth program time frames; evening and weekend availability is required. General availability outside of youth programming is a plus. PAY LEVEL:

Starting pay: $15/hour (to commensurate with experience).

Applicants must have experience working with youth, possess strong work ethic, must be efficient and able to work on a reliable schedule. Applicants should have a positive attitude, be quick problem solvers, and must work well with others. Rock climbing experience is required. Applicants must be willing to learn and further develop and improve customer service and overall climbing skills. Aspire is willing to train high value candidates.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Staff must be able to perform manual labor, including working at height. Staff must be comfortable with lifting objects up to roughly 50 pounds. Vulnerable sector check required.
